A group of adults, ranging in ages from 20s to 60s, with no previous experience in woodworking, constructed a 12’ yurt over a period of ten weeks. Under the leadership of Paul Millard, with support from the Forestry Commission Wardens, they were involved in every stage in the yurt building from selecting and cutting the young trees to shaping, steam bending and finishing the spars that make up the roof and walls, to creating the beautiful circular ‘wheel’ that forms the apex of the yurt structure.
Paul is a natural teacher and participants really enjoyed the opportunity to spend time outdoors learning about different trees and experience first-hand the qualities of different timbers was really appreciated.
